The Questionnaire with Josh Adams / By Dotan Schachter
Jun 3rd, 2010 • Categories: Additional Questionnaires, Comic AritstsWhat are you doing these days?
I am working on a few projects, finishing up a graphic novel Spit that I am aiming at turning a few heads with. It is still pretty hush, hush so I can’t say much about it but information will come in due time as it is already near completion. I am also preparing for the release of my webcomic: Adam, Eve & Steve.
What turns you on creatively?
Collaboration. I’ve recently spent time working with other artists and it has expanded the way thought process that goes into my work and made it easier for me to put more hours in and produce work faster. That’s why I am developing a new ‘Collective’ of artists. The idea being that working together on projects allows us to showcase our strong points on the same book while learning from each other and building better artists.
If you were a mind-reader whose mind would you like to read?
That’s rough. I guess anyone who has ever liked my work. I can’t see the same things they see in the work because I know the process. I see the the mistakes, they see the magic.
If you could travel in time, which era would you visit?
I like the time I am in. It’s a great theme in stories but in reality it’s not my cup of tea.
What is your favorite sound?
Like literal sound? Or reference to music? I guess to answer both, the first song I hear in that moment when it becomes clear that it’s time to push myself to the next level in my work. My career is about intensity.
What is the album or song that influences you the most?
Right now, I am enjoying musicians like the Killers or Muse, but I usually fallback on a variety of constants like Electric Six, Eagles of Death Metal, even Metallica or AC/DC.
Who would you like to collaborate with? And why?
I’ve already worked with some big names on different projects: Kevin Nowlan, Phil Jimenez, John Cassaday, Dennis Calero, my father…now for me it’s about finding those writers or those people with minds that make me want to move to the next level. I want to work with (and if you’re reading this, get in touch!) Mark Millar, Damon Lindelof, Allan Heinberg, J.J. Abrams, and anyone else out there who is willing to challenge the audience or readership with me to expect more from their chosen entertainment.
What drives you crazy?
When stories resort to cheap stunts to entertain.
What makes you laugh?
jokes?
If you had 3 wishes what would they be?
If I told you what I wish for doesn’t that spoil the wish?
What is the craziest thing you ever did?
I’ve done plenty of crazy things in my teen years but I think as far as crazy things go the craziest thing I ever did was try to open a studio in a crippled economy without enough credit to my name. The result would have been financially crippling if I had stayed running even a day longer than I had. It’s not what you’d expect but the ramifications are exponentially worse than any conventionally ‘crazy’ thing I did in younger years.
What makes you feel embarrassed?
Being considered to be someone who has figured out what he is doing with his life. I’m very young, and probably very naive. I can tell you my opinions and my beliefs at the time but as much as I have done with myself now, there is no way I can define what I am with steadfast convictions and it embarrasses me to discover moments where I have acted like someone who’s life decisions are definitive.
What are your favorite web-sites (not including the ones that you are participate in)?
I don’t actually bounce around to many sites. I peruse the comic book sites to keep vaguely updated as well as movie and news websites to be in the know as I don’t often have time to get out to get the latest comics or newest movies every week, especially when I am in the final heat of a gig. I’m also a huge MMA fan so I am always keeping updated on what is going on through different MMA websites.
What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
I’m silly and weird all the time. It’s not my job to remember or figure out the silliest thing I have done. I’m sure plenty of other people have opinions on that though.
How would you make the world a better place?
logically I would do it through the stories I tell but to be perfectly honest, when the time calls for a person to step up for what they believe in, to make change you will only know what to do in the moment otherwise you would have been foolish to know what it is and have done nothing up to that point.
What is your biggest weakness?
Smiles. They can be the most honest thing about people and for some the most deceptive. I find them fascinating and thus are my biggest weakness…also bullets…they go right through me.
Where will you be in 10 years?
No idea.
Write a question that you’d like to ask yourself and answer it.
Q:What do you want to do with your career? A: I want to challenge people to tell the stories that should be told. The ones that might not make you feel so comfortable but cause you to become addicted. I want to tell the stories that other people are afraid to tell.
Who would you like to see answer this Questionnaire?
Dana White
