The Questionnaire with Andy Spain / By Dotan Schachter

"What took you so long? The world wasn’t ready, myself included."

What are you doing these days?
Finishing up work on my debut album, to be called Love In The Age Of Circuitry, which is completely self-produced and I play all the instruments.

What turns you on creatively?
The creativity of others, especially when it reaches for something amazing.

If you were a mind-reader whose mind would you like to read?
Steve Jobs, so I could steal his ideas.

If you could travel in time, which era would you visit?
I would like to see the world about 50-100 years after I’m gone, just so I can find out what I missed.

What is your favorite sound?
Sonar, trains… anything that echoes from a long way off, sounds so lonesome and soulful.

What is the album or song that influences you the most?
Oh man, this changes every day for me, but probably The Beatles’ White Album because it’s so eclectic and raw, yet makes a powerful creative statement.

Who would you like to collaborate with? And why?
Elvis Costello. The idea of working with and learning from one of the true lyrical masters would blow my mind.

What drives you crazy?
Willful ignorance and intolerance.

What makes you laugh?
Just about everything. I am particularly fond of Lewis Black.

If you had 3 wishes what would they be?
1. More wishes.
2. A time machine.
3. The rights to the Pink Floyd catalog.

What is the craziest thing you ever did?
Try to produce an album all by myself.

What makes you feel embarrassed?
Showing up unprepared and unable to cover for it.

What are your favorite web-sites (not including the ones that you are participate in)?
Google is like a second brain to me. I don’t have to remember anything as long as there’s Google to back me up. I also like Engadget and Huffington Post. I’m an info junkie, can’t you tell?

What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
Wallow in self-doubt.

How would you make the world a better place?
By reminding others of the importance of art in all aspects of life, and by giving every kid a chance to learn a musical instrument. In a generation’s time, we could have peace.

What is your biggest weakness?
Independence. It’s also my biggest strength.

Where will you be in 10 years?
Hopefully building on a strong catalog of music that is known as much for artistic integrity as it is for being cool as hell.

Write a question that you like to ask yourself and answer it.
Q: What took you so long?
A: The world wasn’t ready, myself included.

Who would you like to answer that Questionnaire?
Neil Young.

  2. At this time it appears like Expression Engine is the preferred blogging platform available right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?
