The Questionnaire with Jazza McMillan-Clenaghan (rhymingwithoranges) / By Dotan Schachter
May 6th, 2010 • Categories: Additional Questionnaires, Bloggers, YoutubersWhat are you doing these days?
I’m currently living in China trying to get as close as I can to fluent by July 2011. It’s a long road, with peaks and troughs, but I’m getting there. I’m also in the midst of covering the run up to the general election in the UK, which is proving a challenge seeing as I live on the other side of the world, but I love it, it’s great being able to get involved with my own country’s politics again.
What turns you on creatively?
I have never really considered myself a very creative person. I was told by my Year 7 art teacher that I couldn’t draw to save my life, and since then I kind of gave up. When I want to knuckle down and get work done though I need to surround myself with people whom I can bounce ideas off; I can never work in a quiet environment, libraries are my worst nightmare.
If you were a mind-reader whose mind would you like to read?
This is a surprisingly tricky question. I suppose it would be really interesting to get into the head of someone like Lady Gaga, who is always in the public eye but is rarely, if ever, very personal. I find people who are able to have a stage persona without revealing much of themselves fascinating. Also, Gaga is clearly bonkers, and I love bonkers people.
If you could travel in time, which era would you visit?
When to Romans were invading Britain. The English end up loosing in the end, but I would get to paint myself blue and run at people with spears. I suppose I could always move to Scotland, where the Romans never conquered, and the Scottish are lovely.
What is your favorite sound?
The background noise of a bar, preferably without music, I like eavesdropping.
What is the album or song that influences you the most?
At the moment the albums I listen to most are kind of on a constant rotation. It switches between Lungs by Florence and the Machine, The Pursuit by Jamie Cullum and Some People Have Real Problems, an album by an Australian artist called Sia. I do have the albums that I always go back to though, and they include Sgt. Pepper’s by the Beatles, Hounds of Love by Kate Bush and Give up by Postal Service.
Who would you like to collaborate with? And why?
If they were still making videos I would have loved to work with The Gnooze. They we amazingly funny and made current affairs much more accessible for hundred of people. I would love to do something with people based in China, maybe something like SexyBeijing.tv or Danwei.com.
What drives you crazy?
Comments about how my hair is looking.
What makes you laugh?
Spaced
If you had 3 wishes what would they be?
To have a bottomless bank account, I would love not to have to think about money.
For the UK to get surfable waves every day.
For English not to be my first language.
What is the craziest thing you ever did?
I nearly got raped by Baboons and eaten by Crocodiles in South Africa once… That was pretty crazy.
What makes you feel embarrassed?
Compliments
What are your favorite web-sites (not including the ones that you are participate in)?
BBC, Boing Boing, EpicFu.com, TheResident.net, TheGuardian.co.uk, Danwei.com, blog.foolsmountain.com, TED.com… there are more but I can’t think of any right now.
What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
I lost the email contact to a guy who worked at The Times. Still gutted about that.
How would you make the world a better place?
Just get people to talk more. Talking is good.
What is your biggest weakness?
Good food.
Where will you be in 10 years?
I would have paid my parents back all the school fees they spent to get me through secondary school. That failing, I’ll be cooking them Sunday lunches every weekend to make up for not being able to pay them back.
Write a question that you like to ask yourself and answer it.
Is that your real name? Yes.
Who would you like to answer that Questionnaire?
communitychannel, because she is an enigma.
