What are you doing these days?
We’re recording our next album.  We’re in an old Amish barn in the middle of nowhere in upstate New York, with several feet of snow outside and bright orange jackets we have to wear if we want to leave the house so we don’t get shot by hunters.

What turns you on creatively?
Paradox, contradiction, honesty, people who are smarter than me, people who have more noble aims than mine, soul music from the 60’s and 70’s, greek myths, pop science books, and most of all, the song Mr. Boombastic, by Shaggy.

If you were a mind-reader whose mind would you like to read?
Barack Obama, My dogs Dora and Bunny Carlos, this one totally crazy dude that’s always at the gym.

If you could travel in time, which era would you visit?
The Mesozoic

What is your favorite sound?
Handbells, and the clicking sound made by an old street-car conductor’s counting machine that I bought at a shop in Duluth MN.

What is the album or song that influences you the most?
Purple Rain, Doolittle, Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Square Club.

Who would you like to collaborate with? And why?
The Dap Kings, because I’m pretty enthralled with horns right now, and they’re about as good as it gets.

What drives you crazy?
Misuse of apostrophes, angry drivers, bad coffee, unnecessary packaging.

What makes you laugh?
Chimpanzees.

If you had 3 wishes what would they be?
World Peace, to make 5 or so perfect albums, my marriage to be long and joyful.

What is the craziest thing you ever did?
Not fit for print.

What makes you feel embarrassed?
Me from anytime other than now, and often me from now, too.

What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
Started a rock band
